Meet Angel, a precious 7-month-old puppy Footbridge Foundation had the honor of saving from one of our partners, San Antonio ACS. ACS’s veterinarian suspected Angel was suffering a tick-borne illness due to the immense number of ticks and sores she had on her body when she was found as a stray. The ACS surgeon even declined Angel for spay surgery due to the sheer number of ticks and her body's condition.
One of our medical fosters asked us to pull Angel from the shelter so that she could foster her back to health. Kim, Angel’s new foster Mom has experience fostering dogs with ligament and calcium deficiency, causing the front legs to appear broken. This can be caused by being kept in a kennel that is too small for days on end, and malnutrition. Footbridge Foundation has experience with tick-borne disease, so it was decided we would take Angel on as a medical case.
Our veterinarian immediately ran an in-depth tick-borne disease panel and fecal, and we were relieved that Angel’s diagnostic tests were all negative. The Dr. told us that Angel’s body needed nutrients, calcium mainly, and time to heal. Kim worked with Diana Farrar of Fifi and Fido’s, a nutrition expert in Alamo Heights to get Angel on a detailed supplement regimen of fish stock and other important amino acids that will supercharge her immune system. Our vet technician spent hours removing ticks from Angel’s body while she chewed a bone and was a perfect little patient.
Although Angel appears hunched over and her front legs are bent in an unnatural and indescribably heart-wrenching way, she is improving each day little by little. Angel needs your help to continue to heal. Our vet costs are nearing $1,000 for Angel and we must ask for your help. Without our donors, dogs like Angel do not have a chance.
Despite her incredibly cruel and neglectful history, she is truly an “angel” - she’s great with other dogs, cats, and kids and we are so thankful that she’ll have the opportunity to be loved the way she deserves, by a family who will treat her with respect. She has so much love to give. Please donate to our fundraiser for Angel today.
